1. What is the Qur’an?

The Qur’an is the final revelation from Allah, sent to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through Angel Jibreel (Gabriel). It is the literal word of Allah, preserved without any change since its revelation over 1400 years ago.

2. How is the Qur’an different from other religious scriptures?

  • It is the unchanged, direct word of Allah (not written by humans).
  • It is memorized and recited by millions worldwide.
  • It has a unique linguistic and literary style that has never been matched.
  • It provides guidance for all aspects of life, not just religious rituals.

3. In what language was the Qur’an revealed?

The Qur’an was revealed in Classical Arabic. However, translations are available in nearly every language to help people understand its meaning.

4. Can I read the Qur’an in translation?

Yes, you can read the Qur’an in translation to understand its meaning. However, translations are only interpretations of the Qur’an, while the original Arabic text remains unchanged.

5. Has the Qur’an ever been changed?

No. The Qur’an has been preserved in its original form word for word, letter for letter, since it was revealed. Millions of people have memorized it, making alteration impossible. Allah promises in the Qur’an:
“Indeed, We have sent down the Reminder (Qur’an), and indeed, We will preserve it.” (Qur’an 15:9)

6. Why is the Qur’an memorized by so many people?

Allah has made the Qur’an easy to memorize (Qur’an 54:17). Even children and non-Arabic speakers memorize the entire Qur’an, known as Hafiz (Hafiza for females). This is one of the ways the Qur’an has been preserved.

7. How should I handle the Qur’an with respect?

  • Always be in a state of cleanliness (preferably with wudu/ablution) when touching the Arabic text.
  • Place it in a clean and respectful place when not in use.
  • Never place it on the ground or in a disrespectful position.

If reading from a translation on your phone or laptop, these rules are more flexible.

8. Do I need to know Arabic to understand the Qur’an?

No, but learning Arabic helps you connect deeply with the original message. Meanwhile, you can study translations and Tafsir (explanations) to understand its meaning.

9. Is the Qur’an scientifically accurate?

Yes. The Qur’an mentions many scientific facts that were only discovered recently, such as:

  • The expansion of the universe (Qur’an 51:47).
  • The development of the human embryo (Qur’an 23:12-14).
  • The barriers between salt and fresh water (Qur’an 25:53).

The Qur’an is not a science book, but its accuracy confirms its divine origin.

10. How was the Qur’an compiled?

The Qur’an was revealed gradually over 23 years. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions memorized it and wrote it down. During the Caliphate of Abu Bakr (RA), the Qur’an was compiled into a single book form. Later, Caliph Uthman (RA) made copies and sent them to different parts of the Muslim world, ensuring its preservation.

11. Can I read the Qur’an if I am not Muslim?

Yes! The Qur’an is for all of humanity, and non-Muslims are encouraged to read it with an open heart and mind to understand its message.

12. How can I start studying the Qur’an?

  • Read a translation (start with an easy one, such as Sahih International).
  • Listen to recitations to get familiar with its rhythm.
  • Study Tafsir (explanation) for deeper understanding (e.g., Tafsir Ibn Kathir).
  • Memorize short Surahs and reflect on their meaning.
  • Ask questions and seek guidance from knowledgeable sources.

13. Is every Surah in the Qur’an equally important?

Yes, all parts of the Qur’an are divine and important. However, some Surahs hold special significance:

  • Surah Al-Fatihah – The greatest chapter (Qur’an 1).
  • Ayat Al-Kursi (2:255) – A powerful verse about Allah’s greatness.
  • Surah Al-Ikhlas (112) – Equivalent to one-third of the Qur’an in meaning.

14. Is it okay to listen to the Qur’an instead of reading it?

Yes, listening to the Qur’an is beneficial and can bring peace to the heart. However, reading with understanding is also important to apply its teachings.

15. What is the reward for reading the Qur’an?

  • Each letter you read earns ten good deeds (Hadith – Tirmidhi).
  • The Qur’an will intercede for you on the Day of Judgment.
  • Those who memorize and act upon it will be honored in the Hereaft
